We’re still accepting registrations through December for the 2011-2012 Winter Season. Register online at ReisterstownRec.com Practices began in November, however the season continues through February so there is plenty of action left. Today the Raiders Lehigh team defeated Perry Hall Navy team 57-23 and the Warriors Navy team (45-45 with a tie-breaking “most pins” decision).
Pinning their Perry Hall opponents were Anthony Brooks (75), Sebastian Cummings (80), Clark Vandergrift (90), Austin Widerman (95), Evan Mehring (122), and Hamas Khan
(140).
Pinning their Warriors opponents were Josh Lipsey (70), Evan Mehring (122), Connor Mosby (130), Hamas Khan (140), and Asad Khan (150).
Raiders had several other pins in exhibitions matches (unrecorded).
Four Raiders, anxious to start the season, went with Coach Cummings to the Dundalk Hawks tournament today for an open, pre-season tournament.
Sebastian Cummings placed first at 70 lbs and was also awarded Outstanding wrestler, based on the highest/fastest number of pins for the lighter classes.
Also attending were the Vandergrift brothers, Clark and Morgan. Clark, starting his second season on the Raiders A-team, ran into a very tough bracket at 85 and was unable to place. Morgan, starting his first year on A-team, also ran into some tough competition, but was able to take a 4th place trophy home.
Finally, Luke Coleman, who is just this year starting to practice with the A-team, decided to try his hand in the bing leagues. He wrestled tough but was unable to place. It was a valuable and gutsy experience for young Luke at 60 lbs. The risk takers are the ones who wind up the winners in the long term.
Congratulations to all the Raiders who took a chance at some pre-season wrestling competition! And thanks to Coach Cummings for taking these wrestlers on the Thanksgiving holiday weekend!

The Reisterstown Festival Parade is this Saturday, September 10th, starting at 9am sharp. Please RSVP if you can join us on the float at 8:30am behind Food Lion (changed from last couple of years, see below).
We need about 20 kids to make this event a good showing and worthwhile to promote the program. If you haven’t been with us in the parade yet, we simply turn a big flat-bed trailer into an awesome pirate ship, and the kids ride on board and throw candy at the crowds. They have a blast! Parents who attend with their kids can also ride on, or just walk along behind and distribute fliers about signing up.
Currently, the forecast is for rain, so they might cancel it. Monitor the web site at www.ReisterstownFest.com if it’s questionable. We won’t know until that morning.
In the past, it has taken only a couple of hours total, and everyone who has come has had fun. It has definately helped with the visibility and registration of our program. We’ve gotten many wrestlers and even a coach (Coach Mark Christensen) as a result.
Wear whatever Raiders gear you may have, or something black, red and/or white.

Because of construction in the Franklin High gym, the Raiders Mat Club is closing for the summer, to re-open the week before school starts, Monday, August 22nd, 6:30-8:30.
